Do you want to help us build a modern data platform for one of Scandinavia's leading food-tech companies? Cheffelo is currently seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join our close-knit Data Team in Oslo.

Cheffelo was founded in 2008 with the vision of simplifying everyday life by offering a large variety of inspiring meals delivered directly to the customer's front door. Today, the group is a leading supplier of meal kits in the Nordic region and a leader in Scandinavian food-tech. Cheffelo is looking for a Lead Data Engineer that is excited by our vision to create a zero-waste, personalised food experience for thousands of families every week! We are on a mission to help families eat more varied and healthier food with almost zero waste. Thanks to our business model we throw away less than 1% of the food we buy and since the start of 2008 have delivered over 50 million meals.

Data at Cheffelo

We are a diverse and international team of 10 data professionals across data engineering, machine learning, and data analytics.

For the past few years, we have been on a journey to implement data science solutions and highly advanced business analytics. We are running machine learning models in production that support forecasting, recommender systems, optimisation problems, churn prediction and prevention, and much more. In addition, we work with a modern reporting tool stack to provide business insights to stakeholders. Now, we want to support this with a state-of-the-art data platform - and this is where the Lead Data Engineer role comes in.

Your responsibilities in this role

Your main focus will be on:

  • Technical Leadership: You will take the lead on data engineering initiatives across the company.
  • Strategic Vision: One of your main tasks will be taking the lead in the development of a modern data platform. You will be involved both in hands-on development and strategising.

Your other responsibilities:

  • Process Enhancement: Introduce software engineering-inspired processes and structure into our data engineering work, e.g. the implementation of CI/CD, improving deployment strategies and testing, data models, code quality, and version control.
  • Hands-On Development: Utilize your technical expertise to construct robust foundational data models for all analytics products we use.
  • Data Strategy Shaping: Contribute significantly to shaping the data strategy, aligning it with the company's growth trajectory.

  • Knowledge and ability in designing and implementing data platforms.
  • A strategic way of thinking which makes you capable of creating innovative solutions.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Data Engineering.
  • Technical expertise in Python, SQL, and data modeling.
  • Good communication skills that enable collaboration with stakeholders from both technical and business backgrounds.
  • A proactive attitude: you are geared toward getting things done, and are biased toward action.
  • An appreciation for working in a diverse, energetic, and international team.
  • Bonus points if you have experience with a modern data stack (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt etc).
