Job Description

In CoopX, we craft forward-thinking digital products and services for millions of Norwegians. We are passionate about how technology and data can be used to make shopping smarter and more efficient - allowing our customers to spend time on more important matters. We dare to think differently and with a playful, yet professional approach to problem-solving, we believe that autonomy and diversity in teams lead to the best outcomes. Our deliveries vary from apps, payment solutions and advanced software/hardware to support unmanned stores, to advanced analytics products such as personalisation, forecasting, optimisation and segmentation models. Do you want to join us in building the future of consumer goods and retail?

As our new Engineering Manager, you’ll be an instrumental resource in empowering our engineers to craft market-leading products and services. We are looking for a true technologist with an eye for the human aspects of software engineering, and you will be working with everything from supporting our developers with daily deliveries to how we can be the preferred employer for developers moving forward. Our team is growing fast, and we’re finding ourselves at a stage where the team setups, our way of working and its surrounding processes and infrastructure are defined and tweaked to find the format that matches our needs. This is an exciting, yet challenging phase where we know that you as our new Engineering Manager, together with our Head of Engineering and other key resources will be an active contributor towards building a world-class engineering department.

We believe your day to day will look somewhat like this:

  • Manage all technical and personal aspects of one of our software engineering teams
  • Provide leadership and guidance on software engineering infrastructure, architecture and security matters
  • Introduce new ways of working that benefits both individuals and the team
  • Be an active contributor towards product teams to solve engineering problems
  • Conduct continuous risk assessments and stay up to date on the most relevant security attack vectors
  • Be a champion and go-to resource for best engineering practices by designing decisions, processes and tools, as well as other relevant software engineering subject matters
  • Contribute to building a leading work and engineering environment enabling personal and professional growth
  • Facilitate openness and knowledge sharing across our engineering department
  • Be an active contributor in recruitment related activities and onboarding of new software engineers

We think you have some of the following:

  • A broad and proven background in software engineering using modern languages, technologies/tools and principles
  • A hands-on approach to technical aspects such as design, documentation and you write scalable and testable code of high quality
  • You are passionate about building great teams, products and systems, and thrive when taking the initiative to move things forward
  • You are a lifelong learner, and you stay on top of the latest industry standards, methodologies and trends. You have the ability to transfer knowledge and your passions towards this to your team
  • You are a great communicator and a fair amp; motivating leader with high, technical integrity amongst engineers
  • You have the ability to see the bigger strategic picture and steer technical direction according to relevant business objectives

We believe you also will need this:

  • Solid experience as an Engineering Manager or similar lead role from in-house or consultancy
  • Higher education within relevant fields (BSc, MSc or similar) or relevant working experience
  • English fluency

Why should you join CoopX?

  • The chance to take part in build and shape one of the most exciting commitments the retail and consumer goods industry have seen in a long time
  • Work with modern, open-source technologies and some of the most interesting data foundations in the industry to solve complex and important business problems that benefit all of Coop’s customers and 1,9 million co-owners
  • You’ll be a part of an ambitious and diverse team with a startup mindset, no hierarchy, but at the same time backing from a large organisation
  • A high degree of autonomy where it’s up to you and your team to define technologies and tools to solve the problem ahead
  • Excellent opportunities for personal and professional development (e.g. conferences, training, time to work on own projects/upskilling, etc.)
  • Fresh office spaces in central Oslo at Epicenter and at our HQ in Grorud with a high degree of freedom and flexibility on working hours and location
  • Gear and equipment (Ma
