Job Description

In CoopX, we craft forward-thinking digital products and services for millions of Norwegians. We are passionate about how technology and data can be used to make shopping smarter and more efficient - allowing our customers to spend time on more important matters. We dare to think differently and with a playful, yet professional approach to problem-solving, we believe that autonomy and diversity in teams lead to the best outcomes. Our deliveries vary from apps, payment solutions and advanced software/hardware to support unmanned stores, to advanced analytics products such as personalisation, forecasting, optimisation and segmentation models. Do you want to join us in building the future of consumer goods and retail?

As our new Platform Engineer, you’ll be overall responsible for defining and building our platform infrastructure moving forward. Our platform started as a Wiki page, which has now grown to a full Kubernetes cluster with Istio, and we are now focusing heavily on providing industry standards best-practises and solutions to our engineering teams. You will be part of the core team building a new API platform to enable stable, high-availability services where CI/CD pipelines are being fully utilized.

Our engineers embrace ownership and responsibility to everything that we build - you build it, you run it!

We believe your day to day will look somewhat like this:

  • Designing and implementing a hybrid cloud architecture
  • Reading, writing, deploying YAML files (for Kubernetes, Istio and friends)
  • Be an active contributor in defining and implementing best practices for the product teams
  • Implementing cloud governance best practice
  • Define and write security policies for cloud, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Be a part of an enabler team to help new product teams get the infrastructure in place
  • Be responsible for the elimination of toil
  • Introduce and enable zero-trust security models
  • Providing observability for your team and other recourses
  • Defining and agreeing on SLOs together with our Head of Engineering

We think you have some of the following:

  • Solid experience with cloud architecture (We use GCP and Azure)
  • Broad experience with container orchestration utilizing Docker and Kubernetes (with Istio or other service mesh technology)
  • You write high-quality code in Go, Python or other open-source languages
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using technologies such as Terraform amp; Sentinel or similar (Maybe you are already using Pulumi or taking Ballerina into production)
  • You know all about Site Reliability Engineering and want to be an instrumental resource in forming an upcoming SRE team
  • You stay on top of the latest industry standards, methodologies and trends. You further believe that chaos engineering is something for every day of the week and that the 12-factor app methodology isn’t just for devs.
  • An understanding of what the error budget means and how important it is to our teams and at the same time you know what adding an extra 9 to our uptime actually means

We believe you also will need this:

  • Solid experience as a Platform Engineer or similar DevOps roles, utilizing modern technologies and methodologies
  • Higher education within relevant fields (BSc, MSc or similar) or relevant working experience
  • English fluency

Why should you join CoopX?

  • You’ll be working with some of the most exciting technologies and datasets in the industry to solve complex and important business problems
  • You will be a part of an ambitious and diverse team, where we all have a startup-mindset with backing from a large organisation
  • A high degree of autonomy where it’s up to you and your team to define technologies and tools to solve the problem ahead
  • Excellent opportunities for personal and professional development (e.g. conferences, training, dedicated time to work on own projects, etc.)
  • New office space located in central Oslo at Epicenter, as well as offices at Coop's headquarter in Grorud, and in general a high degree of freedom and flexibility on working hours and location
  • Gear of your choice to be provided for you on your first working day
  • Competitive compensation package in addition to solid pension and insurance scheme
  • Other benefits like mobile phone and internet coverage, company cabins and discounts on all Coop stores

At CoopX, you will join a multicultural and multidisciplinary team of highly skilled and ambitious people working towards one common goal - innovate the shopping experience of millions of Norwegians. As a part of Coop Norge, we are driven by values
