How about disrupting the shipping industry with us as our new Data Platform Tech Lead?
With great ambitions, we need great people, and now we are looking for an experienced Tech Lead who will be responsible for the continuous development of our data platform and who also will function as our Data Platform Architect.
The position is based in Oslo. You will be part of a small team with two data engineers in Oslo and one IT developer in Manila and will report to Head of Research amp; Data Platform.
Our current tech stack is built on Azure and features products built mainly in Python, with a data pipeline using Azure Data lake, TimescaleDB and SQL. We leverage modern tools like Fivetran, DBT and are looking to evolve and expand our data platform to include real-time streaming from IoT devices and other workloads. You will have an important voice in the identification and vetting of technology stacks to support these.
The team’s goal is to facilitate collaboration among internal divisions and with external data providers through a democratized data platform that enables end users to ingest, model, and consume data in an efficient way. We believe that the success of this team is central to the competitive ability of the company and that your contributions will have very visible and lasting impact.
The shipping industry is faced with increased regulatory pressure to increase efficiency and transparency. A key success factor for Klaveness going forward will be our ability to drive this change process through increased collaboration, consolidation, and digitization. You, as our new Tech Lead, will play an important part in facilitating this change process through the continuous development of our data platform.
Who you are:
You are a seasoned hands-on tech lead that know that what is written in brochure is not always what is at hand. You find practical solution while keeping an eye on architectural cohesion, know when to forge ahead and when to pull the break. You can communicate this clearly to management and other stakeholders and find a consolidated path forwards that maintains progress and avoid technical debt.
You can lead, inspire and mentor your team. Whilst managing the workload in a transparent manner. You build technology with the long game in mind, whilst recognizing and utilizing emerging best practices and patterns.
What you’ll do:
- Directly contribute to high-performance batch and stream data processing systems
- Manage and evolve cloud-based data warehousing services
- Work with amazing product and business managers to deliver compelling features
- Partner with team members to implement and design interfaces and abstractions
- Sharpen your skills as a developer and build technical domain knowledge on data
infrastructure modernization
What you’ll need:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or similar
- 5-10 years' experience as a hands-on systems developer, data platform engineer or similar
- Strong fundamentals of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns
- Software development experience in strongly typed languages
- Experience building solutions using public clouds
- Proficiency with SQL
- Strong Python development skills
- Experience with Kubernetes and Kubernetes monitoring
- A passion and instinct for data quality
What you could add as a bonus:
- Prior experience with DBT, Job Scheduling frameworks (Apache Airflow, Prefect)
- Integration Platform As a Service and Metadata management solutions
- Building of web applications in Django
- Experience in Rust
- Experience with Notebook driven development (R, Python, Julia)
